An Air India flight, AI 0905, from Chennai to Dubai did an emergency landing because of a fire threat. “Just as we were going on our usual routine, we received an emergency call from AI0905. They had asked for an emergency landing citing a fire threat in their plane. So, we gave them the green signal and they too landed safely.”, a senior officer from Chennai Airport said.
Once the flight landed in Chennai, the emergency crew checked for any signs of fire or smoke, but was unable to find anything. The Pilot also denied any fire alarm and the crew members also reported that they had not seen any fire or smoke. This left the authorities confused.
The matter was cleared when they realized that an air-hostess called in for emergency as one of passenger was looking at the wing and shouting “Nerupu”, which means fire in Tamil. But there was no sign of fire either inside or even outside the plane.
The 30-year old passenger was actually listening a song from a Rajinikanth movie, Kabali, which goes as ‘Nerupu Da’, in his headphones and was singing the song out loud. The air-hostess, who did not know Tamil, but knew a few emergency words, like ‘Nerupu’ meaning fire, thought that he had sensed fire outside and called in!
