Most people are interested only in losing weight. But there are others who badly want to put on weight. Sadly, many consume unnecessary supplements and unhealthy junk food without checking about healthy natural foods needed for weight gain.

If you want to gain weight, have high-calorie junk foods which are nutritious, nutrient-dense and energy-dense whenever possible. Check below a few of them.

* Eat at least 3 well-balanced meals, including a hearty breakfast and snacks throughout the day. For some people, it might be easier to eat smaller, more frequent meals than 3 large meals. Eat hearty soups such as lentil, minestrone, split pea or cream soup rather than broth. Make your canned soup with regular milk or evaporated milk instead of water.

* Eat cereals with added fruits or nuts instead of the puffed varieties. Make cooked cereals with milk instead of water. Add powdered milk to pudding, milk shakes and mashed potatoes. To boost the calories and proteins of a glass of milk, add a bit of milk powder to your regular milk. Dried fruits such as raisins, dates, prunes or dried apricots are high in calories and can be eaten as a snack or added to cereal.

* Salads are low in calories but can be made more by adding cheese or chickpeas or even sunflower seeds or raisins. Nuts are high in fat and calories and make a good snack. Choose desserts that have nutritional value but are also high in calories. Puddings, sweet breads such as banana bread or carrot muffins, ice cream, oatmeal cookies all make the grade. Exercise regularly, eat lots of healthy food, try to keep a positive attitude about food and be patient and the results will be gradually seen.
