Change is a natural part of our life. Everything changes when we change and nothing will change until we change. If we want to become a different person we must live a different life. Clouds do not stand still. Trees flower, sprout new leaves and shed them. Tides come to the shore and recede them. Night follows day which in turn follows night. Life is a constant cycle, ever changing, yet never changing and we are part of it all. We are here until our time is over. We have very less time to make our work, so that one day we will be worth remembering. We should realize that we are as important as the clouds, the tides and the seasons. Our actions either take us closer to our goals or further away from them. Everyday we either move in the direction we choose to go, or we drift with the wind and currents, the tides and pressures of life around us. Life is more evolutionary than revolutionary and inch by inch anything is an easy target.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what is needed in our life. If God allowed us to go through our lives without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as we could have been. We would never be able to fly. One day a small opening was seen on a cocoon. A man saw the butterfly struggling to force its body through that little hole for several hours. Then it stopped making any progress. It seemed that it could not go any further . The man decided to help the butterfly. He opened the cocoon with a pair of scissors. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it was never to fly because it had a tiny, withered body with shrunken wings. It spent the rest of its life crawling around. The man did not understand that the restricting cocoon and the struggle was required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening. This was God’s way of forcing fluid from the body into its wings, so that it would be ready to fly once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.
Change is necessary for any kind of growth. We must tell ourselves that as one person we cannot change the world but we can change the world of one person. We can change our own life. Jimmy Dean rightly said,” I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.”
