10 Amazing Books that were turned into Disastrous
Ask a passionate reader about an amazing book and then ask the person ‘Have you seen its movie?’, rage will shower through his eyes. Granted, many books have been converted into amazing movies like Harry Potter series, Gone Girl, Hunger Games etc. But not all producers and directors are talented enough for a successful transition. Here are 10 such horrible films –
- The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen –
This novel has classically been the 19th century collaboration between the British Empire and Superheroes to fight crime. But the movie, which sees greats like Invisible Man, Captain Nemo and Professor Moriarty hasn’t been such a success.
- Gulliver’s Travels –
Even if this movie, featuring Jack Black might appeal to the younger generation, people who have read the book know that the charm of the book is lost in this loose translation.
- The Da Vinci Code –
An amazing book written by Dan Brown, amazed the entire world when it was released in 2003. The charismatic Robert Langdon and the beautiful Sophie Neveu set out on a trail to hunt for the location of the Holy Grail. The movie which features Tom Hanks, is very poorly made script and direction tend to confuse the audience.
- The Great Gatsby –
Even with Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, this film could not catch up with the beautiful written book.
- I, Robot –
This Will Smith starring movie was a little well received by the audience. Not many people who have seen this movie know that it is adapted from a book written by Isaac Asimov.
- Eat, Pray, Love –
Julia Roberts looks stunning as always. But the movie stretches on and on with a boring screenplay and lousy shots.
- Message in a bottle –
This lovely book is written by Nicholas Sparks. This novel was adapted into a romantic drama film by Luis Mandoki. It had an average rating an horrible critic reviews.
- The time travelers wife –
This book, written by Audrey Niffenegger, was turned into a not-so-promising movie in 2009.
- A walk to remember –
This movie did not do justice to Nicolas Sparks’ book. The whole screenplay was pathetic. These actors are not the way we imagine them while reading the book.
- Water for elephants –
With no chemistry between the actors, even the well-written screenplay could not save this movie from becoming a flop.
Though no director has ever done justice to any book, we expect them to at least not shred its reputation in pieces. Better luck next time, maybe?!
