I grew up thinking that in order to live a happy life, I had to get good grades and go to a prestigious university and eventually get a high end job. But as I grew older, I began to realize that in order to live a happy life, one has to decide for oneself and not live a life that others expect of them, whether they are your parents, teachers or friends. This is your life.

I made a decision that I didn’t want to be successful only to live in a big house with fancy cars in the drive. So I kept doing things that made me feel happy. Like writing anything that comes to my mind, or cracking jokes at which only a few people laugh. But that was enough for me because it made me feel happy.

P.S: Don’t get lost in society’s belief that you are only successful if you have a well paid job. No. As humans, we are going to die, that is one thing we are guaranteed in life. What will you care about the most while lying on your deathbed, your fancy cars, big house? Or the stories and experience that you have encountered on the journey of this beautiful thing called life? So at the end of the day, it’s your decision whether to choose your way of living life, or let others choose it for you.

Think about it.

But the actual work requires the same discipline and passion as any job you love doing, be it as a very good pipe fitter or a highly creative artist.
